The release of Need for Speed: Most Wanted was the last of the initial Wii U titles that the company released. (It also was by far the title that really took advantage of the Wii U hardware and provided a different experience on the Wii U platform.)
While the confirmation from EA does not mean that the developer will not develop titles for the Wii U in the future, at least for the time being the company has no plans to move forward with any new Wii U title development. The news strikes a serious blow to Nintendo, who needs all of the software support that they can get for the Wii U. Only time will tell whether other developers will follow EA’s lead. For sure, the news puts a lot of pressure on Nintendo to come up with and fund the development of new and interesting Wii U titles; or the system could die out before it gets started.
Analysts we have spoken with believe that while a price cut might help get some Wii U machines moving, without solid continued software support it will be difficult to get the sales numbers up to where publishers and developers will be eager to support the system.
