Hollenshead leaves id Software after 17 years

Will pursue other interests, but no specifics

CEO Todd Hollenshead is leaving id Software after 17 years of helping guide the company. The news was confirmed by Bethesda. The decision to leave is apparently to allow Hollenshead to pursue other interests, but no specifics were announced as to what those might be.

While Bethesda wished Hollenshead well in his future endeavors, one can’t help but wonder if the issues with Doom 4 and the failure of Rage to do better at the checkout counter might have contributed to Hollenshead’s decision to depart. It is unlikely that we will ever know the full story.

Sources claim that the development of Doom 4 has been difficult and has not yielded the results that the studio or publisher Bethesda would have hoped. Because of the decision to put the Rage sequel on hold and move to Doom 4, word is that id is working hard to deliver the kind of title that will put the developer back on top.
