We had a chance to chat with the Tom Sonderman, the president of SkyWater - a new/old US owned and operated semiconductor Fab. These guys can make a lot of interesting IoT, automotive and even quantum processing units and what makes it unique is that it is US owned and operated.
Suddenly don’t like the proposal
China is not making it easy for Qualcomm and NXP and it has asked both companies to refile application for Chinese Regulatory Approval.
Qualcomm promised its shareholders it would cut its operating cost by a billion dollars and the only way to really do that is to let some people go. Projects that didn’t bring the company the expected results might vanish and unfortunately some people will get the dreaded pink slip.

Last year Nvidia stopped getting so called licensing money from Intel. After five years the financial injection was delivered in total. This all came after the Intel and Nvidia conflict that started over chipsets, but essentially was a settlement that ended up being called licensing. It never was GPU licensing.
Not an early adopter
Apple is known for not being an early adopter when it comes to new wireless standards. According to people close to the matter, Apple 2019 iPhone won’t have 5G capability. Intel might even be ready with its 5G PC solution.
